I researched half a day online for the best affordable flat iron and this is a winner.
It gets very hot quickly and you just glide your hair through - you don't even have to do it slowly (provided you use small segments of hair). And, the shine it creates in my hair is amazing.
These plates are solid ceramic, not just ceramic-coated, so it distributes heat evenly.
I have very coarse, wavy, frizzy hair. I was resigned to just cut my hair all off until I came across this flat iron.
I never thought I'd say this but, I LOVE my hair now.

Overall I would have to say this straighterner is a very good product. I have been straightening my hair for almost 10 years, and this is by far the best straightener I have used. The plates are smooth and glassy (being ceramic and all) and they heat up evenly and do a great job. Also because they are so smooth and do not get hot spots and scorched or burnt, any residue from styling product is so easily cleanable (I used to have major problems cleaning the gunk off my metal plated straighteners). I have used numerous other straighteners that snagged (in spaces between the plates), broke and damaged my hair, and since using this my hair looks so much healthier and I have fewer split ends and less heat damage. My only regret is that when I bought this I did not realize that it came in a 2 inch size, which I most certainly would have purchased instead since the 1 inch size is so small and takes longer to use (the reason for the missing star). I highly recommend this product even more than some straighteners I have bought from beauty supply stores.
Good straightener
I have been using this product for about 3 months now. It has been working very well with my hair. There was just once I burned my forehead while using this product, but that was because my hair was too short and I was trying to make it straight :)
Overall this is a good straightener, better than my previous VS one. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a hair straightener.

Yep, It's Fabric
I went to Conair's website to see what this straightening iron looks like. Sure enough, the plates are covered with fabric. Don't let that deter you though. Your ironing board is covered with fabric, right?
My hair is straight, but I find straightening irons far more effective and easy to use to style my hair. And this one is the best I've tried yet. It gets plenty hot, but also has settings that are low enough to style fine hair without damaging it. It heats up quickly, and the 1 1/2" wide plates are perfect for styling all but the shortest hair.
I'm so glad I bought this. I may get more for my nieces. One has her eye on a very expensive straightening iron, but this really is perfect for her. And mine is purple, another plus. I love purple :)

For a straightener that dries and and also straighten my hair, it's ok. It takes much longer to straighten my hair than with my regular hair straightener by Conair. I do like the curved plates. It makes it versitale to flip in or out the ends of my hair. If you have a lot and thick hair this product might not work very well for you.

I am *terrible* when it comes to styling my own hair, which is why I usually wear it up. I look forward to getting my hair done professionally, so I can wear it down and have it actually look good! My best friend is the same way, so when she told me she had bought a wet/dry straightening iron and it had made her hair look incredible, I had to run and get one! I bought this model and couldn't believe the results! It was like I had gone to the salon! And unlike my "regular" straightening iron, this one didn't leave my hair frizzy. I LOVE this thing! I love this product!
I can't believe Amazon stopped carrying this item. I bought it only about a month ago and absolutely love it! I said good-bye to my hair dryer and my curling iron (which I was using more as a straightener to calm the frizzies the hair dryer caused.)
The other reviewer's comments pretty much describe me too. More people should have had a chance to try this product.
I was just now online to by "a spare" becx I was so happy with it. Now I must go shopping elsewhere. :-(
My fav flat iron
Wonderful flat iron. Heats quickly, compact, great custom heat settings and I love that I can use it on wet hair. I usually blow dry till damp then use it. My hair is smooth and shinny and it does not catch and pull my hair like some other irons have. I've even used it to "iron" my daughters dress while on vacation :P

works good for me
I bought this hair straightener about a year ago for around 30$ and i find that it works great. I have very thick long hair and i never ever pulled my hair with it. Im not sure if people are using it right. I even had friends who use salon ones for 100-200$ and they are pretty impressed on how well it works. also if you want really nice straight hair blow dry it with a large round brush first, even people with expensive ones do that first. also i use it almost every day and i dont have damaged hair.

On the way out of a store to go to another store to buy a $150 straightener I'd been researching, my husband suggested trying a cheaper one first. He said if it didn't work, he'd return it and I can go on and buy the expensive one. I washed my hair last night... let it dry while I was sleeping and plugged the straightener in this morning. In 15 minutes I was done and my hair was beyond perfect! My husband is rarely right (don't tell him), but this time he was right on!!!! It rules! I'm so excited. I'm actually excited to go to work tomorrow!! I highly recommend! If you follow the directions... it shouldn't pull at your hair!

This review is coming from a person who has tried just about everything out there to style hair. When I purchased this, I was using both a curling iron and straightener and got tired of changing outlets and heating up 2 products. This curling iron is great. You get the benefit of going from curling iron to curved straightening iron and back in a second. It is easy to change back and forth and the tip stays cool so you don't burn yourself. The curling iron makes nice smooth curls and the strightening iron can make your hair stick straight. Plus, the ceramic helps tame those frizzies!

I am a professional stylist and I bought this unit for my 13 yr. old to mess around with. But after using it, I love it! It is over 400W which works just as good as the expensive ones, even has ajustable heat settings. I love not having a cord hanging in my face, you just need to set it back in the charger between using it vs. just laying it on the counter.

Convenient and a Great Value Too
UPDATE: After a few uses, the Conair no longer worked as well. It still does an okay job, but I find myself looking longingly at the Chi flat irons whenever I pass a display. If I flat-iron in the morning, it doesn't get perfectly sleek by a long shot, although it looks a lot better than before. And it requires touch-ups by evening. With my other flat iron, my hair would still be pretty good even the next morning. It also snags my hair if I'm not careful. I still love the convenience of the two-in-one, though.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I have extremely thick, coarse, very wavy (almost curly) hair--definitely a challenge for any flat iron. Prior to this curling/straightening iron, I owned a $150 Wet-to-Dry T3 Tourmaline flat iron (see my review), a $50 Jilbere flat iron, and a run-of-the-mill drugstore curling iron. The Conair does as good a job at straightening and smoothing my hair as the T3 or the Jilbere. Once I flat iron it, it stays so nice and smooth the next day it doesn't even require a minor touch up.
I actually like the Conair better than the T3 or the Jilbere, because no matter how careful I was, the T3 was terrible at pulling my hair, and the Jilbere, while better, still caught the stray hair now and then. I have never gotten a hair snagged by the Conair. And I love having one less hair appliance/cord and one less cord cluttering my counter. I also really like that it has an auto turn off for forgetful people like me. It is slightly more wieldy than a flat iron or curling iron alone, but that's almost always the case when you get a 2-in-1 anything. I think it's mainly due to having to account for the rounded outer shape when straightening. You have to hold it a little farther away from your scalp. I can't think how they could've made it easier, though, while still keeping the 2-in-1 design.
It's easy to switch back and forth between curling iron and straightener. The power light and temp control are right on the front, so I can tell at a glance whether it's on or not. With the other flat irons, I had to look between the plates to see the light. One small nitpick is that I wish I could set the temp and it would default to the same temp everytime I turn it on. As it is, I have to turn it up every time.
But the Conair is an amazing bargain. For less than $30 and to have the convenience of a curling iron / straightener in one, I am highly impressed. I would happily buy it again at twice the cost, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Great flat iron. I bought this after my other flat iron gave out. It has longer plates so that you can reduce the amount of time you spend on your hair. It does not dry out my hair and it leaves it shiny.
Fast, Easy, Amazingly Effective.
This hair straightener has made me feel so much better about myself day to day.... I'm a total weakling and could never style my hair because I couldn't hold my arms up in the air for long enough.. I have long hair and quite a lot of it.. I really wanted the sleek shiny straight hair that you see in the advertisments and now, thanks to the Conair Infiniti, I have that hair, every day, and it only takes me five minutes in the morning. This straightener is as light as a hairbrush, heats in 30 seconds and I basically just brush my hair with it and it comes out perfect. Works very well
I have 3c/4a very kinky curly african american hair that is all natural. I used it with the Liquid Keratin treatment and it did a very good job. Its hard for my hair to stay straight but with the treatment and this iron it did the job of making my hair straight for days.
