Conair Full Size Ion Shine 1875 Watt Hair Dryer

Product Description

Ions help to reduce frizziness and static electricity. Promoters shiny, conditioned healthy hair. Soft finger diffuser attachment for curly or textured hair. Quiet motor, 75% less noise with all the power. Ions surround the soft hair shaft, making it smoother, shinier, and more manageable. Concentrator attachment for pinpoint styling. Has a quiet fan design, 1875 watts, cool shot button, 2 heat / speed settings, LED ionic switch, and hang loop. Here's how quiet the dryer is: Conair Quiet tone is no louder than your office (much easier to carry on a conversation). Not only does the Conair 1875 watt styler let you dry in comfort with its new quiet fan design - its speed drying diffuser helps it work faster by drying the top and lower layers of hair at the same time, aerating the roots with turbo action. How ions work to keep hair shiny and healthy: Clouds of negatively charged ions neutralize positive charges that are in the air and reduce static electricity which causes fly - away frizzies and dulls hair.

Amazon.com Review
Dry your hair and improve its health at the same time with this ionizing hair dryer from Conair. Built with a motor that's no louder than a low office hum, this dryer has a sleek, comfortable design and convenient, versatile functions. The most striking feature is the optional ion disperser, which coats hair with a cloud of negative ions to reduce frizziness, static electricity, flyaways, and dullness. The dryer also features two heat/speed settings and a cool-shot button to freeze styles in place. Designed to dry hair faster and maximize volume, the diffuser attaches easily and has a wide, narrow mouth, so the flow of air distributes to upper and lower layers simultaneously. The unit's hinged filter removes for easy maintenance, and the automatic shutoff disables power if the dryer falls or gets wet. An out-of-the-way hanging hook simplifies storage and reduces wear and tear on the cord. --Emily Bedard

Some pluses, some minuses3
This is my only experience with an ionic hair dryer, so I have nothing with which to compare this one. However, I bought it because I had several expections about its features. Here is how each feature measured up:

Quicker? NO. It may even take a little longer than a standard 1875-watt dryer. The reason is that the fan does not blow very hard. The "high" setting blows about like the "low" setting on a standard dryer.

Reduced frizz/flyaways/static? YES. These are significantly reduced.

Increased shine? YES. My hair is visibly shinier.

Quieter? YES, but qualified. The only reason it is quieter is because it doesn't blow air as hard as a regular dryer.

Freshens hair? YES.

Another drawback: This dryer is very heavy. It took me several days to get used to how heavy it is.

This dryer delivers almost all of what ionic hairdryers promise, but I was mostly hoping for a dryer to speed drying time. If you have thin hair or hair that dries quickly or have plenty of time to dry your hair, then I would highly recommend this dryer. My hair looks shinier and healthier.

New shine for the ol' mane5
As a child of the Sixties, I still wear my hair long and I blow it dry every morning. When my old Hartman Protech 1600 hair dryer hit the bathroom floor, things weren't the same. Eventually, in a spectacular pyrotechnic display, it breathed its last.

Since I had paid 20 bucks for it way back when, I was ready to spend that much on a replacement. Much to my surprise, in the 10 or so years I'd owned that dryer, a lot had changed, and now the same money buys a lot more hair dryer, so with some dough to spare, I bought one of these.

Many complain that it doesn't pack the same wallop as other dryers but that's a case of perception versus reality. The Conair's barrel has a larger diameter than most dryers and its fan is quieter, so while the perceptible breeze isn't as blustery, it's still moving plenty of air. I know because I use an egg timer to count off 3 minutes while I dry my hair and the Conair never leaves my hair damp (a barber told me that after 3 minutes of blow drying, you're just toasting your hair and not helping it). If you MUST have that scalp-scorching pinpoint blast, Conair includes a concentrator.

Ions are all the rage in hair dryer technology right now. Purportedly, a stream of ions directed at your hair will neutralize static electricity and smooth out frizzy hair. Ions are also claimed to flatten out scaly hair shafts, resulting in more shine. I'm waiting for our good friends at Consumer Reports to weigh in on the benefits (or lack thereof) of "dual ion ports", but after a week of daily use with the ion switch ON, I've noticed that my hair doesn't fight me as much when I brush it into place. Even when the static-charged Santa Ana winds are howling through sunny SoCal, my hair doesn't stick out like porcupine quills. And, yes, if I turn my head from side to side, there's a noticeable shimmer that either wasn't there before or I had never noticed it.

A minor flaw is that the power and ion switches respond to a very light push, but after a couple uses you learn to position your hand accordingly after switching on the dryer. The dryer offers low and high air-speed/heat settings and has a "cool shot" button that cuts off the heater while cranking the fan up to its fastest speed. "Cool shot" is another feature that is said to set a style in place by cooling down the hair quickly.

So, whether ions really do or don't make a difference, the overall performance of the Conair Ion Shine is worth the price.

I like this dryer alot.4
I wrote this review 3 years ago. 3/2006 and this dryer is still going strong.

This dryer is definitely quieter than most. I purchased it after I dropped my previous Quiet dryer from Conair and the clip that holds on the diffuser broke. No diffuser makes a dryer useless to me. I had to use my back-up dryer (not a Conair, the one time I strayed) for a few days. I could hear the difference when I got this new Conair. It's much quieter and was significantly lighter. I'm not very impressed with the IONIC portion of it, hence the 4 stars. The diffuser is nice and big. It attaches solidly (without clips that can break) and really stays on there. The hanging loop is a big plus too. I will never buy another dryer without one again. I like Conair because they stand the test of time. I've never burnt one out. I need a hair dryer that can take a lot of abuse and Conair's have always been able to do that.

I'd like to point out also that I have never tripped a circuit breaker at home or visiting someone with this dryer. That reviewer should get their home wiring checked before they have a fire.

Overall, I highly recommend this dryer.

Does just what it says5
These irons straighten my coarse thick hair without burning it and they heat up in less than 60 seconds. My hair looks wonderful and silky after I use them.

Good results but at a cost2
I have had this hair straightener for two years. It gets very hot and can straighten my hair in about 30 minutes. But the outside gets so hot that it hurts my hands. I need to set it on a metal surface so as not to damage my dresser. The on/off buttons on the left side are rather sensitive, so when I'm gripping the handle I often turn the iron off without realizing it until the straightener becomes ineffective and needs to reheat.

Excelent Product5
No problem at all. Excelent and quick heat. Easy to use.
Excelent product.

Just Purchased June 20094
I'm just learning how to use a flat iron, so - as I become more accustomed to using it, I will add to my comments.

It's difficult to tell WHO is actually rating a product, but the first review sounded like a competitor, with a one star rating.

I like the the 30 sec. instant heat, It has the tourmaline ceramic technology - most seem to have this, too.
The first time I used it it was easy to handle, and seemed to do just as advertised.

The controls are in a place (and embedded) where you can't accidently change your settings. It does automatically turn off in 60 minutes.

The iron can also be used to create curls. The directions are illustrated, and easily understood.

Customer Reviews

Finally, an end to my morning hair battles...5
I have the most unruly combination of wavy and straight hair. And, yes, I have that embarrassing crease near the crown of my head, too. I have tried every product under the sun, including flattening irons, water-heated steamers and curling irons, to give it that smooth straight softness you see in the magazines but nothing seemed to ever totally work. Before buying this straightener, I was using a combination of comb-brush-type dryers and thick curling irons to tame my thick head of hair. What a battle!

But, now my suffering is over. What I love about this straightener is that it works almost as a brush, dryer and straightener in one. The other reviewer commented that the pins hurt her head. I consider those pins to be a brush, besides; you almost have to have pins so the steam can penetrate all of the strands of hair. I can handle it and my head of hair is usually full of tangles. What I do is blow dry my hair until it's almost completely dry, brush my hair really well, work the straightener through my hair, and BAM - perfectly straight smooth hair. My only complaint is that I wish I would have discovered this straightener a long time ago...

Update 1/15/08:
After accidentally breaking this one, I couldn't wait to purchase another one. Upon opening my new Conair straightener, I was saddened to find they have remade the original design and have now removed the two sets of straightening pins. Darn! While I still find this straightener great, I don't find it quite as effective without the two rows of pins to really permeate my hair...

One of the best5
I'm a junior in high school and i absolutely love this straightener. I'm italian with semi-straight hair but I don't like it when it kind of flips in at the end. I use this straightener everyday and it just straightens out my hair so it looks pin straight. I had a different model of the Conair straightener but this one definitely works better. My friend also has this straightener and it makes her frizzy hair straight to the max. If you really want a good flat iron, buy this one!

baby bottom soft hair5
omgosh i cannot tell you how much i love this straightener. it makes my hair SO SOFT its like baby bottom soft or when u sand wood for a really really long time. i LOVE it. i use it everymorning.. at night i use the wet setting to dry off my hair and then in the mroning i finish it off with the dry settting. but i also use sunsilk pink bottle 24/7 creme. its an absolute must-have.
to the person who gave it one star.. maybe yours was a defect. im sure everyone else who has rated it so far loved it. did you straighten it section by section? it doesnt work if you do it all at once.

i recommend this straightener! its not that expensive and also makes a great christmas gift. looks nice too.

enjoy!

Customer Reviews

Give it a try5
This iron was surprisingly good! I just bought this iron on sale at Eckerd. After reading terrible reviews of CONAIR products both on Amazon.com and [..], I fully expected to be returning it the next day.

However it works well. It heats up, does not catch hair and the curved plates are actually useful in getting a nice curve to your hair. My hair is in a short bob and has been relaxed, though the ends are a bit natural.

Previously I had a[..]T3-Tourmaline which blew out after 9mths of use. Even if this Conair only lasts for 9 months and only has a ceramic coating as opposed to ceramic plates, I consider it a great deal!

Wonderful Product5
I use this along with the Blowdryer because i like the dead straight look for my hair. This iron does that job perfectly for the finish i want especially the under curl that it does. i love the product.

Good product, but there are definetly better ones for the same price.3
This product was bought for my wife, her feedback is that it does the job, but not as efficient as other ones in the same price range.

Works on Coarse and Relaxed Hair5
I just love this produce. I am a African American with coarse thick relaxed hair. I must say after using this product I will not use another kind of straightner or flat iron. I love the combs, and the adjustable heat settings. It made my hair soft and silky. I also used it on my neice who has long really thick hair. It usually takes forever to finish, however I was done much quicker. She just loved how it felt when I finished, as it was shiny and silky.

Great!!!!

PERFECT! THIS IS SO AWESOME!5
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3DLI4PTN092EY Here's my video review. It basically shows one side of my hair straightened, and one that hasn't. I forgot to mention in my video review that I only filled the water chamber 1/2 way full (I couldn't get more in) and it ran out pretty quickly. The directions say not to take off the water chamber when the iron is still hot, so that is pretty much the only con I found with this. Otherwise, it left my hair incredibly straight and soft!

I love this steam straightener!!!!!5
I purchased the Conair Infiniti Steam Straightener a couple days ago. The main reason is because of the steam. The one I currently own, a Virtuo, which I paid about $100.00 for 3 years ago at the mall, does not have steam. With my hair totally dry, I have to go over one piece of hair two to three times, so I wanted to cut my time in half. I have long hair that is medium in thickness. Let me tell you, this does work. It took me about 10 minutes to totally straighten my hair. It would take me 20 to 25, on a good day. I only had to go over each piece ONCE. The steam really does make a difference. It also made my hair very shiny, whereas the one I currently own does not. On the bottom plate, there are detangling "combs" that are retractable. Other straighteners have actual combs, which when straightening your hair, actually cut it! Ouch! These combs are not pointy, they are round. So, it doesn't cut your hair. I like also because it has an automatic shut-off. That is really great for me because I have left my other one on all day!!!! I was hesitant to purchase this because I read a lot of different opinions about it, and a lot of them were not good. But, like anything else, you have to try things for yourself. Everyone has different hair types, so some products might not work as well as others. I give this straightener an A+++++.

Customer Reviews

Love the concept, but not the quality I was hoping for.3
Before I tell about the problems I've had with this straightener, I need to mention that I absolutely LOVE the design. The curved plates are awesome for giving volume at the roots and flipping my layers out or under. It makes (well, made) my thick, wavy, frizzy hair extremely straight and shiny, and the price is nice and low.

However, I guess you get what you pay for when quality is concerned. The "ceramic technology" they spout on the package simply means the plates are ceramic *coated*, not solid ceramic. Fine with me, except about a month after I purchased it, the coating was already wearing away on the plates! I only use it about three or four times a week, so it's not like I was putting unusual stress on it. I've continued to use it for the last year and a half, however, and haven't had any additional problems until recently. There seems to be something wrong with the heating mechanism now, because I went to use it the other day, and when I touched it to my hair, it literally sizzled and singed the section I had in it on contact! Now I have this ugly frizzy spot right next to my face that I am just praying will grow out quickly. I used it a couple times after that, testing on my ends before putting it through my hair (getting a haircut soon, so no big loss if they singe), and have had the same thing happen about 25% of the time. I've since been wearing my hair in a ponytail and am shopping for a new flat iron (with SOLID ceramic plates!).

I don't know if anyone else has had these issues, but it really does make me sad that mine started falling apart so early on, because the design really is great. Too bad :(

Great hard-to-find straightener at the RIGHT PRICE!5
I had been using the Conair CS15TCS Professional Straight Styles Straightening Iron for a few years that I originally bought because it was inexpensive and worked fairly for seldom use on long hair.

Because my hair is short and I style it more precisely now it is imperative that the ends of my hair do not flip out and hang very straight, so I thought I would try this after I borrowed my friend's.
Well, it worked like a charm! Now I don't have to spend as much time blow drying and styling my hair with a round brush because this straightener really does most of the work. (Now I only have to use the round brush and dryer for volume.)

Pros:

* Heats quickly
* Maintains temperature
* Easy to handle and grasp
* Long cord that swivels to reduce tangling
* Can be used on wet to dry hair
* Low cost; Excellent value!
* Does what is says!

Cons:

* On the hotter settings (Levels 25-30), the plates are so hot that I am not able to grasp the unit nearer to the top for better control. But this is probably due to the design (the vents for use on wet hair release a lot of heat).

Some things to keep in mind:

This straightener was $25 and made in China, so I wouldn't expect it to have the quality or life expectancy of a $150 straightener. I wouldn't say it is "chintzy," though.
For the price and the results, the value is excellent!

Also, this unit gets very hot on the higher settings! So hot that it will burn some people's hair, especially if it is thin, dry, or brittle. Of course, that is the price you pay for heat styling, so proper precautions should be taken (conditioners, heat protection lotions/serum, etc).

I love this iron!5
I have had no problem with this iron. I got it so that I could curl my ends easily and flip out the ends also. The flipping out has been difficult for me to get the hang of but that's probably me and not the iron's fault. But when I just want to quickly curl my hair under it does a quick and beautiful job! When I use the wet/dry feature it's just because my hair is damp and I don't have the time to dry it 100% of the way. I don't expect the iron to dry my hair but it DOES flatten and curl it even while damp when I use that button. My hair comes out shiny and lovely in a flash with this iron. Not really any ripping or damage at all. Of course I use a leave in conditioner/volumizer before I heat style my hair and I set it to a heat setting of "15". Great buy for a reasonable price, love the curve of the plates and even the red color and look of the appliance. I wouldn't trade it in for a more expensive Chi or whatever even if I were rich!

Great Little Flat Iron!4
I ordered this product from Amazon and just got it this week. I absolutely love it and it's exactly what I was looking for.

It heats up very quickly, less than the promised 30 seconds. The size is perfect for travel and fits in a purse. The pouch that it comes with fits not only the flat iron but the cord as well, although it takes a little positioning for that. As opposed to the other mini-flat irons, there's no awkward glove to prevent burning; there are round grips on either side that provide comfortable grip and control.
I bought it so that I could take it in my carry-on for my trip and I'm sure it will do perfectly. I also have really tight curls around my hairline and the regular sized iron can't get them really well but this one is absolutely perfect.

I only have 2 issues with it that prevented me from giving it well-deserved 5 stars. One is that I would have preferred some kind of a control over how hot I want it to get. The second is that there is very little plastic around the plates and because of the size, it's very easy to put the flat iron too close to your scalp which does hurt just a bit. But with a little practice, it's really easy to figure out what works best.

Overall, I greatly recommend this product.

Perfect for travel!5
I love this mini straightener, it's perfect for traveling because it takes up so much less space! It's also easy to carry around every day because it's tiny. I keep mine in my purse for the flyaway emergencies! I think it's great for the size!

I highly recommend this item5
Great price, fast shipping. The product works well and very convenience. I really like this product. I highly recomment this item. Good choice. Thank you.

Conair ceramic hair straightener4
The Conair brand products generally work well and this product is not an exception. It straightens quickly and quite well for having such small plates. The one con that I can think of is that it doesn't have a comb attachment, which speeds up straightening and makes your hair a lot smoother. It's a great tool nonetheless.

Awesome Straightner5
Conair CS3B Ceramic 1" Straightener, Breast Cancer Awareness, Power of Pink
This is an awesome straightener. You get your money's worth. I've tried BED HEAD's straightener which can cost more than $100 and it doesn't work as great as this straightener. I bought an additional one since I love it so much. GREAT BUY.

pink flat iron5
I bought this flat iron for my teenage daughter upon her request. I was worried that it would be cheaply made, but it actually works really well. I like that you can adjust the heat setting. My daughter uses it often and loves it. I highly recommend this product....and it's nice that part of the sale goes to fight breast cancer.
